3 Gentle Sleep Tips for Insomniacs

Do you struggle to fall asleep at night?
Find yourself waking up frequently or feeling like your sleep is never quite deep enough?

You’re not alone. Insomnia is one of the most common sleep issues—and it can impact your energy, mood, focus, and overall health.

The good news? A few mindful changes can make a world of difference.

Here are three simple yet powerful tips to help you drift into a restful night’s sleep.

1. Ditch the Caffeine

Even if you only drink coffee in the morning, it can linger in your system for hours.
Caffeine is a stimulant that interferes with your body’s ability to relax and fall into deep, restorative sleep.

Try this:

  • Avoid caffeine after 12 PM

  • Opt for herbal teas like chamomile, lemon balm, or tulsi (holy basil) in the evening to soothe your nervous system

2. Come Off Screens 2–3 Hours Before Bed

Phones, laptops, and tablets emit blue light, which disrupts your circadian rhythm—your body’s natural internal clock.
It also reduces melatonin production, the hormone that helps you fall and stay asleep.

Instead, wind down with:

  • A warm bath

  • Journaling

  • Reading a physical book

  • Gentle breathwork or stretching

3. Do a Relaxation Meditation Before Bed

This is my personal go-to: Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation done lying down.
“Nidra” means sleep—and this beautiful practice can help you release tension, slow down your brain waves, and sink into deep rest.

Even 10–20 minutes of Yoga Nidra can calm your nervous system and prepare your body for slumber.
