The holiday season can be a time of celebration—but for many, it also brings a sense of loneliness or reflection. I’ve often found Christmas challenging. With my family scattered across the globe and facing an uncertain future as a single woman, I’d wonder each year which friend might invite me over so I could feel part of something.
But this season also offers a powerful opportunity: a moment to pause, reflect, and go inward.
Turning Reflection into Intention
Before I became a life coach, I used to greet each new year with a list of last-minute resolutions—lose weight, get fit, find love. Sound familiar? The truth is, like many people, I rarely kept them. And I now know why.
A staggering 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail. Most of mine did too. What I lacked back then was structure, clarity, and support.
Why Most Resolutions Don’t Stick
It wasn’t until I became a coach that I understood how to actually create lasting change. Through my own growth and by working with others, I learned that lasting transformation is not about random wish lists. It’s about intention, strategy, and accountability.
What truly helps is having someone by your side—a coach or mentor—who can hold you accountable, spot your blind spots, and cheer you on.
Make This Year Different
When I work with clients, I encourage them to use the transition into a new year as a reset point. It’s the perfect time to:
-
Reflect honestly on the past year
-
Acknowledge wins and challenges
-
Set big-picture goals for the coming year
And don’t just focus on one area like love or work. Instead, think about:
-
Personal development
-
Purpose and passion
-
Health and wellbeing
-
Relationships and family
-
Career and finances
-
Home environment
From Resolutions to Strategy
Instead of vague resolutions, create clear life strategies.
Here are a few of mine:
-
Accepting myself as I am
-
Being kinder to myself
-
Building my business internationally
-
Laughing more
-
Finishing my book
-
Inspiring others
Your Turn
Ask yourself:
What do I truly need in the year ahead?
Write it down in a way that both inspires you and holds you accountable.
Then, come next year, open that list again. See how much you’ve shifted—and how far you’ve come.
Wishing you a joyful, mindful, and meaningful festive season.
With love and light,
Ani x
