Self-care, digital detox, unplug from the matrix.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I’m always talking about the importance of self-care, mindfulness, meditation, and mindset work. These practices aren’t luxuries—they’re essential tools for clarity, calm, and connection.
Every year for the past two years, I’ve made it a priority to step away from the noise of the digital world and immerse myself in 10-day silent meditation retreats—no phones, no talking, just stillness and presence. Sometimes I even do two a year!
This weekend, I’m heading off again for a long weekend meditation retreat as part of my ongoing commitment to myself—and ultimately to others. For four days, I’ll be unplugged, off-grid, and in silence. And truthfully?
I can’t wait.
Why Digital Detox Matters
In our constantly connected lives, it’s easy to lose touch with ourselves. We scroll out of habit, answer messages out of obligation, and react before we breathe.
A digital detox offers a sacred pause—an opportunity to reconnect with your inner world.
Because only when we serve ourselves fully, can we truly support our loved ones, our clients, and our communities with intention and energy.
How to Do a Digital Detox Effectively
You don’t need a 10-day retreat to benefit from unplugging. Here are a few simple ways to incorporate digital boundaries and create your own version of a detox:
1. Set Clear Intentions
Ask yourself: Why am I doing this?
Is it for peace of mind, to be more present, or to reset your nervous system? Knowing your “why” will help you stay committed.
2. Choose Your Time Frame
Start small. Try one afternoon, one day, or one weekend. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s presence.
3. Create a Tech-Free Zone
Designate areas in your home—like the bedroom or dining space—as phone-free zones to promote better sleep, meals, and conversations.
4. Tell People You’re Unplugging
Let friends, family, or clients know you’ll be offline. Setting expectations helps reduce pressure and allows you to relax fully into your detox.
5. Replace Screen Time With Soul Time
Fill the space with something that nourishes you:
-
Meditation or breathwork
-
Journaling
-
Nature walks
-
Reading a physical book
-
Creative hobbies like painting or cooking
Give Yourself the Gift of Silence
I’ll be off-grid for the next few days, nourishing myself in silence so I can come back clearer, calmer, and more connected—for myself and for you.
So if I’m quiet this weekend, you know where I am.
What do you have planned for the weekend?
And could it include some time just for you?
Wishing you a restorative, beautiful weekend.
